Game Description:
Made for the Scratch Game Jam #6: The World is Against You, "Mad Earth" is a retro-style survival/ boss battle game about restoring calm and peace to a mad and violent world as it tries to prevent you from returning home after completing a space mission.
Your objective is to calm down Earth and get it to allow you to safely return home. Earth uses its GRAVITATIONAL PULL to move ASTEROIDS towards each other, throws TREES to destroy you, spits waters bubbles to take away points (only as low to a score of 500), and spits LAVA FIREBALLS to put you under the heat... See what happens when Earth becomes very mad. With your spacecraft, use your skills to dodge obstacles and projectiles while collecting stars and hearts in order to prepare use of positive firepower.
Controls:
1) Movement = Up Arrow/W, Down Arrow/S, Left Arrow/A, Right Arrow/D Keys (includes diagonal movement to easily dodge obstacles or projectiles and move across space)
2) Shooting = Space Key (can only shoot while in idle during Level 4 when Earth's heart meter appears)
How to Play:
- There are 4 levels you need to complete, each with its own challenges:
Level 1: Start at 0 points
Level 2: Reach 500 points
Level 3: Reach 1000 points
Level 4: Reach 2000 points (Earth's HEART METER appears and you can use your spacecraft's HEART BLASTERS to shoot the Earth in order to calm it down)
- Collect yellow stars to increase your score and progress to the next level. Pink hearts will eventually appear to help give a score boost. By collecting stars and hearts you also power your spacecraft with the energy necessary to calm the Earth once its heart meter appears.
- Stars and hearts can show up anywhere on the screen so plan your movements wisely.
- All projectiles and obstacles (accept for Earth's water bubble) can destroy your spacecraft. Even the slightest collision will cause your spacecraft to not move properly thereby leaving you vulnerable to Earth's attacks. If your spacecraft gets destroyed, then music will indicate it is game over and the game will stop playing.
- Shoot Earth with non-stop positivity until it becomes calm, happy, and peaceful in order to win the game (Earth's health meter will continuously fill up until Earth is satisfied).
- Click the PLAY/REFRESH BUTTON at any point to return to the title screen and start the game again.
- Feel free to go for your highest score by continuing to collect stars and hearts during Level 4 (How long can last? How high can you go?).

The game is very nice! If you want to make an update here's a list of things I think would make the game more fun: A bit of storytelling leading to the boss fight(Why its attacking the player etc.), a larger cooldown for reseting the yellow stars' positions. Idk if it's just me but when the star is all the way to the other corner of the map i cant get it before it resets. I also found a bug where the stars spawn in earth and i can't get it without dying which was a bit tedious to wait until it resets. Anyways I hope you find my suggestions useful. Have a good rest of your day!
Also you can make a how to play menu at the start.I got a bit lost when I first played it.

Thanks for all your feedback and suggestions.
To be honest, the stars spawning over earth was intentional (not a bug) to force the player to wait and survive. I wanted to use the randomness as a way to make the gameplay a bit more challenging.

i did have trouble shooting. how do i do that again?
once you get to level 4 and you're not moving
i was doing really well when all of a sudden i couldn't move side to side. Feature? or just glitch? or just my keyboard?
Did any obstacle that does damage come into contact with you but did not fully collide? This can disable your ship's maneuver capability and leave you open for attack.

Note: It took me a few seconds to figure out how to start.
I was doing well then the Earth came down from orbit and killed me.
